It has been an honour to serve on the Pension Advisory Group with so many other eminent experts and legal minds, and I’m proud to have reached this stage.
Here’s where you come in: We are now seeking feedback and comment on the work done thus far from all those (lawyers, pension schemes and pension experts) who have an interest in seeing a greater consistency of approach, and certainty of outcome, when dealing with Pensions on Divorce. The intention is that some authoritative guidance, with appropriate endorsement, can be issued to assist in this most difficult area of financial remedy work. The PAG is a multi-disciplinary working group of Barristers, Solicitors, Pension Experts and Academics under the chairmanship of Francis J and HHJ Edward Hess. It has spent countless hours in deliberating various issues—some highly contentious—trying to bring about consistency of approach to pensions in matrimonial proceedings. I want to extend my thanks to all my colleagues on PAG, who on occasions must have been giving up the will to live as they listened to interminable arguments on the most obscure and esoteric of issues. My wife certainly learned to lock the knife drawer and medicine cabinet before I got home on days I attended PAG meetings! To those of you who read the documents, it will become self-evident the amount of hard work that all members of PAG put in. It would be wrong to pick certain individuals out, other than (i) Hilary Woodward of the Law School at Cardiff University, who cannot be praised too highly for all of her work in pulling this together and (ii) those who chaired the various meetings and prevented dogmatic experts with intransigent and opposing views from strangling each other – I include myself!
