The Approach

Our aim is to provide expert, professional advice in an easy-to-understand format, and doing so in straightforward, plain English.

In all the work that we do, we seek to provide a first-class service while being both friendly and approachable.

We regularly receive thanks for the clarity and completeness of our reports, which we continually strive to improve to meet the different needs of our wide base of clients.

To paraphrase the oft quoted phrase of “Don’t bring me problems; bring me solutions”, we would say:

“Bring us your – or your clients’ – problems, and we will provide solutions which are actuarially correct, practical, sometimes imaginative, and hopefully easy to understand.”

Mathieson Consulting Ltd specialises in the provision of Expert Witness Services for Lawyers and the Courts, in pensions and other areas of actuarial work.

The Experts in Pensions and Divorce.

Pensions can be extraordinarily complicated, and in divorce situations their values that might be placed on these can be contentious such that how they are to be divided is often something of a challenge.  In combining Actuarial Expertise and a huge amount of Experience, we offer Practical Solutions, explained in Clear English, to simplify potentially complex issues.

“If I had one hour to save the world, I would spend fifty-five minutes defining the problem and only five minutes finding the solution.”

– Albert Einstein (allegedly)

Given a schedule of pensions that divorcing parties may have, we do not rush headlong into calculating a solution. Instead, we first consider the issues, investigate the quirks of each pension and define what the parties wish to achieve. Only once we have clearly defined the problem, do we get out our calculators and open up Microsoft Excel.

George Mathieson and his fellow report writers are ably supported by a team of experienced, conscientious, and proficient back office staff.  George is always delighted to speak to Lawyers to discuss a case with them (if the subject switches to Cricket or the latest Pink Floyd album, so much the better) and his team are all incredibly approachable and will keep you up to date with the progress of a case.

At the final hearing District Judge D….. praised the report as being comprehensive and easy to understand.”

– Katherine Rayden, Rayden Solicitors, of a Single Joint Expert report.

“For many, if not most, divorcing couples, the pension assets will be the most valuable asset that they have after their matrimonial home. Whilst hours can be taken arguing over the value of the home, and thousands spent on expert valuations, all too often little or no attention is paid to the pensions issue other than obtaining a basic CETV. That figure is often misleading or incorrectly calculated. I would suggest that in any case where pensions are a substantial asset, expert advice is taken. I know of no one better able to provide that advice and to think creatively about how to get the most out of the pension pot than George Mathieson.”

– Nicholas Francis QC, Head of 29 Bedford Row Chambers
